Preventive measures due to the rains: ensuring safety

In the midst of the crisis situation caused by the torrential rains on the Black Sea coast, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov informed about preventive measures taken to ensure the safety of the population.

During a briefing at the Council of Ministers, the minister announced that preventive shutdown of transformers is currently being carried out only in areas affected by large amounts of water. The purpose of this measure is to avoid incidents related to electric shocks.

According to Minister Stankov, the intense rainfall, which reached hundreds of liters per square meter, led to flooding of a substation of the electricity system operator. Thanks to the coordinated actions with the director of the fire department in Burgas and the regional governor, the substation was drained in a timely manner. The organization includes readiness for alternative power supply to consumers in case of a further increase in the water level.

The minister assured the public that after the completion of the drainage activities, the power supply will be restored. In the areas where the infrastructure is seriously affected, teams from the electricity system operator and the relevant electricity distribution company will carry out inspections and will begin restoration work.

Earlier today, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Tony Todorov reported a tragic incident in the resort village of Elenite, where one person lost their life as a result of the disaster. Actions are currently being taken to retrieve the body.

The Minister of Environment and Water, Manol Genov, provided data according to which the expected amount of rainfall is between 200 and 250 liters per square meter, based on information from neighboring hydrometeorological stations.
