An unforgivable incursion into Polish airspace was strongly condemned by Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov during his visit to the town of Simitli. The incident, which occurred yesterday, was the subject of a thorough analysis by the head of government, who emphasized the seriousness of the situation.
Prime Minister Zhelyazkov unequivocally described the incident as an "unprovoked violation of airspace", stressing that the actions were unacceptable and required a firm response. Speaking to journalists, he stated that Bulgaria's position is completely clear and is in full agreement with that of its allies. The tension could be felt among the crowd as the Prime Minister explained that such actions are a threat to the security of the entire region. He expressed "the Alliance's determination to take all necessary actions that the treaty also implies", which shows NATO's readiness to defend its members.
According to Zhelyazkov, the entry of the drones into Polish airspace is a "needless provocation" that further escalates the situation. He warned that such incidents "do not help to de-escalate the situation between Russia and the European Union member states", but on the contrary, they undermine any efforts for dialogue and de-escalation. These actions, aimed at destabilization, provide "more and more arguments" for the allies that decisive measures must be taken. The Prime Minister stated that there is a broad consensus in the "Coalition of the Willing" regarding the need for "serious security guarantees for Europe". This is necessary to prove that the Alliance has the "necessary defensive readiness and ability to cut off any attempts at aggression and provocation".
At this stage, there are no indications of the activation of Article 5 of the NATO Treaty, which provides for collective defense in the event of an attack. However, Prime Minister Zhelyazkov stressed that the Alliance is monitoring the situation with increased attention and is ready to react in the event of any escalation.
