In 2025, 424 end-of-life motor vehicles (ELVs) were removed from municipal parking spaces in Burgas. The data is from a report on the activities of marking, voluntary removal, forced relocation, and dismantling of ELVs, the Municipality announced.
During the reporting period, a total of 691 ELVs were marked. Of these, 381 were removed voluntarily by their owners, and orders for forced relocation were issued for 46.
Twenty-one vehicles were voluntarily dismantled, and 17 were dismantled by force. At the same time, 160 of the marked vehicles passed an annual technical inspection and were returned to service. Five vehicles were moved to private properties.
The Municipality of Burgas clarified that the measures are part of the policy to improve the urban environment, free up public spaces, and increase the safety and aesthetic appearance of residential areas.
To be classified as an ELV, a vehicle must meet at least one of the following conditions - to have old registration numbers; at least three months must have passed since the date on which a mandatory periodic technical inspection was due, to be located on municipal or state-owned land.
Eco-inspectors check reports of abandoned vehicles and mark those that meet the criteria with a sticker. Owners are given a 14-day deadline for voluntary removal.
