Maria Filipova, the Chairperson of the Consumer Protection Commission, familiarized the participants in the wide-ranging discussion with the specific steps that the CPC is taking to ensure the successful introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. According to Ms. Filipova, the main focus at the moment is on the preventive and control activities of the regulator.
As part of the preventive activities, the CPC will create an information portal for monitoring prices, a mobile application for monitoring the proper currency conversion, and will conduct an information campaign in different regions of the country. Ms. Filipova herself stated that she and her team will visit about 300 settlements within 30 days after the final decision of the EU Council on the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
The purpose of these measures is to reach the citizens, even in the smallest settlements, as well as the business, in order to hear their questions and to ensure the proper application of the legislation, starting one month after the final decision on the introduction of the euro. According to the Chairperson of the CPC, this will help people to orient themselves more easily in the process of transitioning to the single European currency.
The forum, at which Ms. Filipova presented the CPC's plan, was opened by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, and the full statement of the Chairperson of the Consumer Protection Commission can be viewed in a video recording.
