Google's Gemini chatbot ran into problems for users around the world on 8 October 2026. At 9:30am Pacific time (16:30 UTC), Downdetector had more than 6,000 reports. By 9:40am (16:40 UTC), that was close to 10,000[1]. Most people said the chatbot failed to generate answers[1].

Other outage trackers also show more complaints. Reports on Downdetector began to climb at about 5:58am Eastern time[2]. Of the problems reported, 69% were errors in generating a response, 13% involved the website and 12% the mobile app[2]. Users say their requests end with a repeated error message, and some chats have disappeared[2].

The sources used for this report contain no official statement from Google on the cause or on when the service will be back[1]. Downdetector data comes from user reports and does not show the exact number of people affected. We will update this article when the company responds.
