Police Operation in Sofia: Focus on Fake Driving Licenses

A large-scale specialized police operation was launched last night in Sofia, personally ordered by the director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior (SDVR). The operation, which is part of the intensified measures to maintain public order and road safety, is primarily aimed at the prevention and countering of crimes related to fake documents and driving of unregistered motor vehicles.

Objective of the Operation

The main goal of the operation is to establish and identify a maximum number of drivers who possess driver's licenses of questionable origin. This type of check is of key importance in the fight against organized crime and in ensuring greater road safety for all citizens. Inauthentic documents are often related to other illegal activities, which makes their detection a priority for law enforcement agencies.

Results of the Checks

To date, as part of the actions carried out, SDVR officers have checked 299 drivers of motor vehicles. The results from the first phase of the operation are already visible, with a number of serious violations being identified.

A total of four people have been detained. One of them was caught driving a car under the influence of drugs and alcohol - a combination that is extremely dangerous and often leads to serious road accidents. Another detained person was driving with a fake driver's license, which raises questions about the legality of the driving rights he acquired. In addition, two drivers were arrested for driving vehicles that were not properly registered, which is a gross violation of the Road Traffic Act.

Sanctions Imposed

In addition to the detained individuals, the police teams have prepared numerous documents for violations:

• 216 tickets for minor offenses
• 33 administrative violation reports
• 79 electronic tickets

According to a statement from the SDVR, the operation is ongoing and is expected to continue. It is part of a broader strategy of the Ministry of Interior to curb illegal practices and improve road safety, especially in urban areas with heavy traffic. The police call on citizens to cooperate and follow traffic rules. New data and results from the ongoing checks are expected to be provided in the coming days.
