Parliament Suspends Work Due to Lack of Quorum

Shortly after the beginning of the plenary session in parliament, the work was interrupted due to a lack of quorum, creating tension in the atmosphere of the legislative body. The session began with the scheduled procedures, but was quickly adjourned, which raised questions about the ability of the MPs to continue with the planned tasks.

The chairman of the session, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Dragomir Stoynev, presented a proposal to include an additional item on the agenda. It was about a second reading of amendments to the Law on the National Security Service (NSS). This proposal provoked an immediate reaction.

Petar Petrov from the "Vazrazhdane" parliamentary group strongly objected to the proposal, emphasizing that it violated procedural rules. He stressed that there was no extraordinary reason to justify the extraordinary inclusion of this bill on the agenda. His statement clearly showed that a debate on this issue was expected.

Before proceeding to a vote on the proposal to add an additional item to the agenda, Alexander Rashev from "There is Such a People" requested a quorum check. The results of the check showed that only 120 MPs were present, with a minimum of 121 required. This confirmed the lack of enough MPs to hold sessions. The chairman immediately stated that there was a lack of quorum and announced a new check after 15 minutes.

Today's program of the plenary session includes a blitz control and parliamentary control. From 9:00 a.m. in the hall, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, as well as Deputy Prime Ministers Grozdan Karadjov and Tomislav Donchev, were scheduled to participate in the blitz control. The uncertainty about the quorum casts a shadow over the possibility of holding these important procedures. A tense atmosphere was expected in the corridors of the parliament.
