The new era in men's tennis is unveiled with the Roland Garros final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. The two young talents, who already possess 4 Grand Slam titles each, face each other for the first time in a decisive battle for the prestigious title in Paris.
Alcaraz (world #2) aims to become only the third player in the 21st century to defend his Roland Garros title, after Gustavo Kuerten and Rafael Nadal. Sinner (world #1) wants to win his third consecutive Grand Slam, after his triumphs at the US Open last year and the Australian Open in January.
They have already met 11 times, with Alcaraz leading the head-to-head 7-4. The Spaniard won the final in Rome three weeks ago, but Sinner made a strong comeback after a 3-month suspension for a doping violation. The Italian has not lost a set in Paris yet, while Alcaraz has to come back from 0-2 in matches to win the title.
The match started with Sinner's dominance, who won the first set 6-4. In the second set, the Italian led 5-2, but Alcaraz managed to turn the tide and equalize, before losing the tiebreaker 7-4.
In the third set, Sinner took the lead again, but this time Alcaraz left no room for doubt and won the set 6-4, getting back into the match. The fourth set also went to a tiebreaker, where Alcaraz showed character and turned the result, leveling the match at 2-2 sets.
The decisive fifth set will determine the new Roland Garros champion. Alcaraz took a 2-0 lead at the start, but Sinner did not give up and managed to get back into the set. A fierce final awaits, which will decide who will lift the trophy.
