Burgas mayor Dimitar Nikolov met Elizabeth Chapman, the UK's deputy ambassador to Bulgaria, to discuss how the city is preparing for Eurovision 2027. Tens of thousands of visitors from nearly 40 countries are expected at the contest.
They talked about tourism in the region and how to welcome foreign guests. Nikolov and Chapman discussed how ready the city is for the music event, the cultural programme around it and transport links with the UK: Burgas airport has a year-round flight to London Luton. They also covered co-ordination between institutions, security, where guests will stay and cultural exchange between people from different countries.
The tourism ministry is expected to prepare events that show Bulgarian traditions, culture and hospitality. The aim is to make Burgas and Bulgaria better known around the world.
The mayor said Burgas and the region have wide experience with international tourists, good infrastructure and many places to stay. He said the large number of beds is an advantage for international events. Nikolov called the region an established tourist destination where hospitality is part of daily life, and named Sunny Beach as one of the most popular places in Europe for entertainment and nightlife.
"People here are used to welcoming guests from all over the world, and I am sure we will create a positive atmosphere for everyone who comes for Eurovision," Nikolov said.
The meeting was held in a spirit of partnership, and both sides said they were ready for joint projects.
