The research vessel "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" (NIC 421) begins its fourth expedition to Antarctica from Varna. The crew will reach the Bulgarian base on Livingston Island at the end of December.

The research vessel "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" (NIK 421) sets sail on its historic journey to Antarctica, embarking on its fourth expedition to the icy continent. Today, at the Sea Station in Varna, in the presence of many guests and with a solemn ceremony, the start of this important mission will be given. The atmosphere in front of the ship is filled with anticipation and excitement as the crew prepares for the challenges that await them in the distant waters.

The captain of the ship, Radko Muevski, announced that they plan to reach the Bulgarian Antarctic base on Livingston Island at the end of December. Prior to this, the ship will make a key stop in Argentina, specifically in the port of Mar del Plata. According to the preliminary plan, NIK 421 is expected to dock there around December 15th.

In addition to the planned routes, there is a possibility that the ship will also visit the port in Ushuaia. This expedition is particularly significant because for the first time in the history of the voyages, NIK 421 will also make a stop in the Chilean port of Punta Arenas. This variety of ports highlights the logistical complexity and scope of the scientific expedition.

The journey, filled with scientific research and challenges, is scheduled to conclude with the crew's return home in mid-April 2026. As the ship prepares to set sail, the feeling is that an exciting and important journey is ahead.
