Nesebar's town council has cleared the way for a new wastewater treatment plant for Sveti Vlas and Elenite, voting unanimously - 19 votes in favour - at a special meeting in late September.

Councillors approved changes to the cadastral map and registers for Sveti Vlas and signed off on changing the use of municipal land. They also backed a detailed zoning plan, covering building layout and land division, that includes the routes for the plant's access infrastructure and road link.

Four municipal plots in the Aga Cheshme area will be split up to create new land parcels, and the council gave preliminary approval to change their use for the plant. The decision takes effect immediately, since the programme's deadlines are tight and the grant funding could otherwise be lost.

The plant is part of the "Integrated Water Project for Burgas Region - Phase 2" and is funded under the Environment Programme 2021-2027, with Burgas Water and Sewage company (VIK) as the beneficiary.

Burgas regional governor Diko Dikov, who also heads the regional Water and Sewage Association, has pledged to push the approvals through quickly on the institutional side, as several agencies are involved in the case.

Mayor Nikolay Dimitrov told the meeting that the municipality is working on the approvals together with the regional governor, the regional development ministry, Burgas Water and Sewage company, and the Water and Sewage Association.

At a meeting with local businesses in Nesebar, regional development minister Ivan Shishkov and Burgas Water and Sewage executive director Zlatina Dimitrova promised that the changes to the cadastral map and the use of the newly formed plots would start as soon as possible, with the council's vote marking the first step in that direction.
