Average Speed Violations: Over 37,900 Files from Toll System

The Ministry of Interior announced over 37,900 files with registered violations of average speed, captured by the cameras of the toll system. This data was obtained from 12 certified sections of the national road network. The imposition of the relevant sanctions and fines is forthcoming.

The collected data on violations covers the period from September 7th to October 8th.

The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency recalls that a month ago, the road agency informed about the technical readiness of the national toll management for the inclusion of 126 sections of the national road network. The total length of these sections amounts to about 1200 kilometers. The issuance of methodological guidelines from the Ministry of Interior is expected, which will allow the phased inclusion of these sections in real sectional control of the average speed.

As of September 4th, the sections that had passed initial inspection were 16. It is planned that by the end of the year, the entire planned scope of 126 sections will begin to function in reality.

The most serious cases of speeding, registered by the toll system, are as follows: 223 km/h in the Radinovo - Tsalapitsa section, 222 km/h in the Tsalapitsa - Radinovo section, and 219 km/h in the Ihtiman - Vakarel section.

In the files of the Ministry of Interior for the same period, over 4200 records related to non-compliance with seatbelt rules and violations of the prohibition on driving in the emergency lane are documented.

The Ministry of Interior clarifies that the procedure for issuing sanctions for average and instantaneous speed with an electronic ticket is identical. The delivery of electronic tickets for speed violations is carried out electronically, physically – during police checks, during administrative services to citizens, or through postal service. Violators receive the ticket, accompanied by information on the deadlines for appeal and payment.

In cases where the violation provides for a penalty of deprivation of driving rights, administrative criminal proceedings are initiated. In this case, the owner or user of the vehicle is summoned to the regional police departments.
