Sofia, Bulgaria — On the first day of the autumn session of the National Assembly, political leaders gathered at the parliament building to outline their priorities. The air was filled with anticipation, as it always is at the beginning of a new political season, as the MPs made their way to the hall for their first sitting. In this tense moment, the Chair of the Committee on Foreign Policy, Yordanka Fandakova from GERB-SDS, gave a statement to the journalists who had gathered, emphasizing the urgency of the legislative work.

With clear determination, Fandakova stated that the parliament is faced with the adoption of "very important draft laws" that meet the mandate given by the citizens. She highlighted the Law on Pre-school and School Education, defining it as a key priority. She revealed that, together with the Minister of Education, Krasimir Valchev, and his team from the Ministry of Education and Science, they used the summer vacation for intensive work. This period of preparation was dedicated to summarizing all proposals for changes to the law, which, in her words, will speed up the process of modernizing the education system. "This is something that everyone expects", she noted, emphasizing the public significance of the reform.

Hope for stability and work

In response to a question about the future of the parliament — whether it will continue to function or will be dissolved — Fandakova expressed optimism. She stressed that despite speculation about early elections, there is hope for the continuation of the work of the current National Assembly. Pointing to the volume of upcoming work, she made it clear that ending the term would be inexpedient at a time when there are so many legislative tasks to be carried out.

Agenda of the Committee on Demographic Policy

Later in the day, the Committee on Demographic Policy, Children, and Family will hold its session, at which the first vote on three draft laws related to proposals for changes to the Law on Pre-school and School Education (LPSE) will take place. This session is awaited with great interest, as it represents the first concrete step toward the realization of the educational reform, which, according to Fandakova, is one of the main priorities of the ruling coalition. The discussion is expected to be active, and the proposals will be subjected to a debate that will determine the direction of future changes in the country's education system.
