RUSE — An attack that shook the city on the Danube has provoked sharp reactions at the highest state level. Yesterday's attack on the director of the Ruse police, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, was defined by key figures in the executive branch as a direct assault on the foundations of the Bulgarian state.
Sharp reaction from the Deputy Prime Minister
In an official post on social media, Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov made a sharply condemnatory statement, calling for uncompromising action on the part of the state.
"The state must punish and crush with an iron fist the perpetrators of such criminal acts," he wrote on Facebook, emphasizing the need for firmness and resolve in response to attacks on law enforcement officers.Zafirov also expressed his categorical position that such acts are "unacceptable and represent an attack not only on the individual, but also on statehood and public order." As a sign of solidarity, he declared his support "for him and for all law enforcement officers who risk their lives daily in the service of citizens."
The Minister of Interior arrived in Ruse
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov arrived personally in Ruse, accompanied by the chief secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov. Their visit to the city on the Danube was a clear signal that the incident is being treated with extreme seriousness. In a statement to the media, Minister Mitov emphasized that "an attack like this on the director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Ruse, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Kozhuharov, in any democracy is considered an attack against the state." These words outline the seriousness of the situation not just as a criminal act, but also as a threat to the entire legal system of the country.

The investigation into the case is already yielding results. The deputy director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Ruse, Commissioner Aleksandar Kovachev, confirmed that so far four people have been detained, suspected of involvement in the crime. Commissioner Kovachev specified that three of the detainees are 19 years old, and one is a minor — 15 years old. This fact raises questions about the reasons, motives, and potential organization of the criminal act. The scene of the attack left many citizens with a sense of tension and anxiety, as such acts against high-ranking police representatives are rare and disrupt public peace. The public expects swift and decisive action from the authorities to restore a sense of security and to prove that the state is unshakable in the face of such challenges.
