NRA completes audit of Ivan Demerdzhiev: No property irregularities found

Results of Ivan Demerdzhiev's tax audit

The completed tax audit of the former Minister of Interior, Ivan Demerdzhiev, has concluded with a zero revision act. The Director of the Communications Directorate at the National Revenue Agency (NRA), Anna Mitova, confirmed to the media that no violations of the law or additional tax liabilities were established.

Scope of the audit

The audit, ordered by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, covered the period from January 1, 2018, to December 31, 2023. Experts analyzed:

• The amount of income received and its declaration;
• Owned movable and immovable property;
• Financial assets, shares in companies, and bank accounts;
• Loans, borrowings, and expenses for travel abroad.

"The findings of the audit show that the individual's income significantly exceeds their expenses, there is a proven origin for all funds, and all taxes have been paid on time," the NRA emphasized.

Demerdzhiev's commentary

Ivan Demerdzhiev himself stated that he did not get rich from his political activities and that he has worked hard over the years. He sharply criticized attempts to compromise his reputation through speculations about the ownership of hundreds of properties, declaring that his financial status is completely transparent.

The audit was initiated following public accusations by DPS MP Hamid Hamid, who claimed that the Demerdzhiev family owned over 400 real estate properties.
