Labour inspectors found more than 27,300 breaches of labour law during over 5,800 checks on building sites in the first nine months of 2026, the General Labour Inspectorate says.
Nearly 20,000 of the breaches involved health and safety rules, while 7,190 related to employment contracts. Inspectors found more than 1,080 people working without a contract on building sites, out of over 2,600 such cases across all sectors checked.
Work was halted more than 660 times at building sites and over 770 times across all sectors. Halting work is a step taken to prevent serious accidents.
Inspectors issued 2,703 reports of administrative breaches. Penalties that have taken effect and approved settlements add up to almost 1.7 million euros.
In the building sector, 65 workplace accidents were investigated, 14 of them fatal.
In early September, the inspectorate told BTA that from November 1 it will start checking whether labour law is being followed at winter resorts.
