More than 100 shooters from Bulgaria and abroad took part last week in the international Burgas Cup - Grand Prix Burgas 2026, held at the Neftohimik sports hall. The Burgas Sport Shooting Club ran the event, backed by Burgas council and the Bulgarian Shooting Union.
It was the first time Burgas had led the organising of a shooting contest this big. It was also the first time para-shooters in Bulgaria got to compete at this level. Bulgaria also held its first-ever "combo" event, pitting mixed rifle-and-pistol teams against each other.
Organisers also let shooters without a licence take part at this level, among them children and parent-child pairs. Competitors split prize money that set a record for Bulgarian sport shooting, with payouts going all the way down to eighth place. At sunset, organisers threw a beach party on the Burgas seafront for all guests and competitors.
On the last day of Grand Prix Burgas 2026, Romania's Luca Joldea won the pistol event, while Teodora Boyanova took first place in rifle.
Over the three days of competition, shooters from Burgas won seven medals in all between the rifle and pistol events.
