Burgas has launched a city programme, "Sport and Health for Every Burgas Child", with a sports festival in the yard of Georgi Benkovski primary school. More than 100 children came to the opening.

The programme aims to help the city's youngest children live active lives and learn to love sport. The Centre for Support of Personal Development (CPLR) in Burgas runs it.

Third-graders from Georgi Benkovski primary school, St Kliment Ohridski primary school and Yordan Yovkov secondary school took part in relay games. Coaches led the games, in which the children played sport, worked in teams and had fun together.

Deputy mayor for sport and tourism Manol Todorov and Pavlina Alexieva, a senior expert at the Regional Education Department, spoke to the children. Petko Georgiev, head of the host school, and the acting head of the CPLR also greeted them.

Several well-known sportspeople were among the guests: Tsanko Tsankov, a swimming world champion. Gergana Apostolova-Kostova, a world champion in Kyokushin karate. And Evgeni Prudnikov of the Kyokushin Spirit Burgas club, a world champion in Kyokushin karate in the veterans' category.

Valeria Docheva, a rhythmic gymnastics coach who twice reached the final of the reality show "The Farm", was also with the children.
