Ministry of Interior Seeks Innovative Solutions to Combat Drone Threats

Drones represent an increasingly serious danger to modern societies, not only entering people's daily lives but also becoming a primary means of warfare. This challenge requires an adequate and immediate response from state institutions. In this context, the Academy of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Interior are taking active steps to deal with the emerging threats.

Yesterday, before journalists, Senior Commissioner Prof. Dr. Ivan Vidolov, who is the Rector of the Academy of the Ministry of Interior, clarified the institution's position on the matter. He emphasized that the proliferation of unmanned aerial vehicles necessitates the introduction of new, innovative products into police work.

These words were spoken during a demonstration of anti-drone technologies, which took place today at the Academy of the Ministry of Interior.

The event, which attracted the attention of the media, showed how institutions are preparing to react to high-risk incidents. Specialists presented innovative solutions aimed at providing greater security for citizens and increasing the effectiveness of police actions.

Prof. Dr. Vidolov revealed that cooperation with the company AHON has begun for the introduction of new systems. "The Academy of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry have started cooperation with AHON, in connection with the introduction of new innovative products in the police's activities. They are an absolute necessity", he stated. These systems include modern tools such as tasers and body cameras. According to the Rector, these technologies not only facilitate the work of police officers but also guarantee their safety, while also ensuring proportionality in the use of physical force and auxiliary means.

Anti-drone technology with a 5-kilometer range

One of the most impressive systems that were demonstrated is the anti-drone technology. It allows a drone to be detected within a range of five kilometers. After detection, the system can deactivate it, land it, and locate its operator. Although the Ministry of Interior does not currently have these systems, they are being tested intensively to assess the possibilities for their future use.

Prof. Vidolov also stressed that the introduction of new technologies must be accompanied by adequate training for employees. This need is of key importance to ensure that police officers will be able to make the most of the capabilities of the new equipment.

Specialists from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior also took part in the demonstration. Senior lecturers from the Department of "Special Police Tactics" – Krum Stoimenov and Marin Grigorov, provided additional details to those present, explaining the operation of the anti-drone system, as well as auxiliary means like tasers and body cameras. They showed how in practice these technologies can transform police work and become indispensable tools for maintaining public order.

The event, which took place against the backdrop of visibly increasing international and domestic risks, highlighted the seriousness with which the Bulgarian authorities are approaching the issue of technological renewal of their services. The demonstration clearly showed that the Ministry of Interior understands the challenges of modern times and is actively seeking ways to counter them.
