Manchester City confirmed its reputation as a club with an exceptional sense for young talents by signing Norwegian footballer Svere Nipan for £12.5 million. The contract is for five years and represents a strategic investment in the team's future.
Nipan, who is only 18 years old, has already proven his potential in the Norwegian Eliteserien, where he was considered one of the most promising young footballers. His versatility makes him extremely attractive to coach Pep Guardiola, who can use him in various positions - as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder, or winger.
In his career so far, the young Norwegian talent has played 70 matches for Rosenborg, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists. His performances earned him the Young Player of the Year award in the Norwegian championship in 2023 and 2024.
Experts draw parallels with another Norwegian football star - Martin Odegaard from Arsenal. According to Norwegian journalist Andreas Korsund, Nipan is a different player who better controls the game from the middle of the field and has a better box-to-box ability.
The young footballer is expected to be initially loaned out for the 2025-26 season, which will help him adapt to the high demands of English football. If the loan is not arranged before July 28, he will train directly with Manchester City's first team.
Nipan himself shared his excitement about the transfer: "It's a dream for every young footballer to become part of this club and join a group of world talents. I have a lot to learn, but the chance to be trained by Pep Guardiola, whom I consider the best manager in the world, will help me become a better player".
The transfer is a record for Rosenborg, surpassing the £8.5 million once received for John Carew. Nipan will be the third Norwegian footballer in Manchester City's squad, after Erling Haaland and Oscar Bob.
Experts are unanimous that Nipan has the potential to become one of the leading midfielders in Europe. His technical preparation, speed, and ability to create goal-scoring opportunities make him an extremely promising young footballer.
