Bulgaria's customs agency collected more than 6.116bn euros for the state budget in the first nine months of 2026, a record for that period, preliminary agency data show.

That is 790.5m euros more than in the same period of 2025, a rise of 14.8%. Every type of revenue went up, and VAT collected on imports in September was higher than in any September on record.

Most of the increase came between the second half of May and the end of September, when the budget took in more than 704m euros extra. Nearly 90% of the year's growth has come since the government led by prime minister Rumen Radev took office.

With close to 1bn euros in revenue, August was the strongest month so far, after June and July both set records for their respective months. The agency says every summer month of 2026 beat the same month in previous years.
