The meeting of the National Council on Migration, Borders, Asylum and Integration, held under the chairmanship of the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov, focused on the country's preparation for the implementation of the EU Pact on Migration and Asylum, adopted on May 14, 2024. The Pact envisages a serious reform in the management of migration and the creation of a common asylum system, with Member States having a two-year period for its implementation.
According to Minister Mitov, in the remaining one-year period, the entire process at the national level is entrusted to the existing coordination mechanism within the National Council. All activities and documents aimed at the final adoption of the Pact by the Republic of Bulgaria will be approved by the advisory body. This requires full mobilization of the resources and potential of all state institutions to ensure successful preparation for the implementation of the new European legislation.
During the meeting, the work done so far and the upcoming tasks, as well as the current state of the divisions of the State Agency for Refugees and the developed Plan for the preparation and adoption of normative provisions for the implementation of the Pact, were presented. The decisions of the Council members will be presented to the Council of Ministers within the framework of its advisory function.
