Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov emphasized the need to reorganize the functioning of certain systems and mechanisms in the Ministry of Interior, in order to improve the training, instruction, and preparation of police officers. This will allow them to respond more adequately in complex and difficult situations, including with persons offering resistance.
The meeting of the Ministry of Interior leadership with the trade unions is a continuation of the dialogue on topics related to the preparation of employees to respond to violations of public order. Minister Mitov stressed that while political speculation is inevitable, every action of the police on the street influences the trust in the state and institutions, especially in the Ministry of Interior. However, he categorically refused to demonize or reproach all police officers.
The Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior and Minister Mitov have set clear tasks for the management during visits to the regional directorates. They have found that for years, the training of police officers has been neglected. Therefore, good preparation is necessary in order to have an adequate response in complex situations.
The Director of the General Directorate "National Police", Chief Commissioner Zahary Vaskov, announced that the methodology, schedules, and training, especially of employees involved in the detention of persons in risky situations, will be changed. The Director of the General Directorate "Gendarmerie, Special Operations and Counter-Terrorism", Chief Commissioner Nikolay Nikolov, added that a special sector will be created to organize practical trainings focused on real cases and situations.
The main focus in the new structure will be the development of practical skills for action in situations close to real ones, as gendarmerie instructors will pass on their knowledge and experience to police officers across the country.
