During his meeting at the State Department, Minister Mitov held talks with Cartland Wayland from the Bureau of Narcotics and Law Violations. The directors of the main directorates "National Police", "Fight against Organized Crime" and "Border Police" - chief commissioners Zahari Vaskov, Boyan Raev and Anton Zlatanov joined the Bulgarian delegation.
Fentanyl is a highly dangerous drug that has been among the deadliest in the US over the past decade. Minister Mitov stated that the Bulgarian government and the Ministry of Interior are paying special attention to measures to counter the spread of fentanyl and its precursors, both in the country and throughout the EU. He set clear and specific tasks for the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior for effective fight against this threat.
Chief Commissioner Boyan Raev, Director of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, presented the work of the service in the field of combating drug trafficking and production, as well as the measures taken to counter the spread of fentanyl in Bulgaria.
Minister Mitov informed the American partners that the Consultative Council for National Security has identified counteracting the spread of drugs, cannabinoid vapes and laughing gas as a priority for the state. He pointed out that after this decision, the special services of the Ministry of Interior are working extremely actively and achieving daily successes in this area.
Among the other topics of the talks were the successful counter-money laundering and the removal of Bulgaria from the so-called "gray list", as well as the fight against banknote counterfeiting.
