Measures against purchased votes: Burgas region prepares for fair elections

Measures against purchased votes were discussed at a working meeting by the Regional Governor of Burgas region Dobromir Gyulev and the director of the Regional Directorate (RD) of the Ministry of Interior in the city, Senior Commissioner Nikolay Nenkov. The meeting was also attended by the head of "Security Police" Commissioner Marin Dimitrov, the press center of the regional administration announced.

The main topic of the conversation was the preparation for the upcoming extraordinary parliamentary elections and the strategy to ensure their fair conduct. Specific measures to counter violations of electoral law were discussed.

Taking actions to minimize purchased and corporate votes, as well as checking signals received from citizens, will be among the main tasks of law enforcement officers in the next two months, assured Senior Commissioner Nenkov.

Regional Governor Dobromir Gyulev said that preventive activity against "vote buying" must be a continuous process, so that voters feel that their vote has not been replaced, that their voice matters and that it makes sense to vote.

Society must be uncompromising towards infringements on the fairness of the electoral process, Gyulev pointed out.

The main priority of the Ministry of Interior is the conduct of lawful elections, said Deputy Minister Kaloyan Kaloyanov in Burgas, where he attended a ceremony on the occasion of the International Day in memory of law enforcement officers who died in the performance of their duty. According to Kaloyanov, if the elections are lawful, they will also be fair.
