Active inspections are being carried out at dozens of locations across the country, targeting medicine warehouses and pharmacies. The goal of these large-scale efforts is to uncover and document irregularities related to illegal practices in the pharmaceutical trade. The primary focus of the investigators is the diversion of expensive medications and their subsequent export and sale on markets outside of Bulgaria.

Teams from the State Agency for National Security (SANS), the Ministry of the Interior, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), regional health inspectorates, and the Bulgarian Drug Agency are participating in the operation. At this time, the actions of these institutions are still ongoing.

The specialized operations cover a total of 12 regions in the country, with the inspections including:

  • Sofia and Sofia Province;
  • Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, and Vratsa;
  • Kyustendil, Pleven, and Ruse;
  • Silistra, Stara Zagora, and Shumen.
