Dozens of enthusiastic runners gathered today to honor the memory of the fallen in the memorial race "Marathon for the Heroes of Ukraine." The event, which is held in a number of countries around the world, today united the cities of Burgas, Plovdiv, and Sofia in Bulgaria, demonstrating solidarity and empathy.
Support and Respect
Despite the tension and tragic events, dozens of people came out to express their support. The event, which aims to pay tribute to those who fell for their homeland, attracted a wide range of participants. Among the officials who took part were Deputy Mayor for Sports Manol Todorov and Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Burgas Dimitar Karanenov, whose presence underscores the significance of the event at a local and international level.
Precisely at 9 a.m., with the first sunbeams, the participants gathered in front of the Pantheon in the Sea Garden, a place that is a symbol of tribute and memory. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of determination and respect. After brief instructions, the runners headed along the five-kilometer route, crossing picturesque alleys and routes that are well-known to local athletes.
The route was not chosen by chance. It is the same route used every Saturday for the popular initiative 5km RUN – Burgas, which is a long-standing tradition for Burgas running enthusiasts.
This continuity gave the memorial race an additional sense of community and continuity. The participants, from experienced athletes to amateurs, ran side by side, united by the common cause.
