On July 9, the weather remains typically July-like – warm, with increased humidity, local showers, and variable conditions for swimming along the Black Sea coast.

The weather in Burgas and the region on July 9

On July 9, a warm, partially unstable summer day is expected in Burgas with variable cloudiness and a chance of short-lived afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

The maximum air temperature in the city of Burgas will be around 28–29°C, and the minimum – around 20°C. The interior of the region (Aytos, Karnobat, Sredets) will be 1–2 degrees warmer during the day.

The probability of precipitation in the Burgas area is around 60–70%, mainly in the afternoon and evening, when cumulus-rain clouds will develop. Local thunderstorms and more intense short-lived downpours are possible.

The sea water temperature near Burgas will be around 24–25°C, pleasant for swimming, but visibility and comfort may temporarily worsen during stormy cloud development.

A light to moderate wind from the east-southeast is expected with speeds around 4–6 m/s, with temporary gusts during thunderstorms. The sea state will be slight to moderate, being more noticeable on open beaches.

Preliminary safety assessment for swimming along the Burgas coast on July 9:

  • morning – green flag: relatively calm sea and good conditions for swimming;
  • afternoon – yellow flag: possible storms, stronger swell, and rip currents, increased caution is recommended;
  • during active thunderstorms and strong wind gusts – local red flag until the dangerous phenomena pass.

Sofia and Sofia region

In the Sofia area, July 9 will begin with broken clouds and sunny hours, but after noon, the development of cumulus-rain clouds and unstable weather is expected.

Maximum temperatures will be around 27–29°C, and minimums – in the range of 16–18°C. Combined with higher humidity, it will feel slightly stuffy.

The probability of precipitation in Sofia and the surroundings is around 50–60%, with more intense short-lived storms possible at the foot of the mountains and in high-altitude neighborhoods. During these phenomena, strong wind gusts and a brief drop in temperatures are possible.

The wind will be light to moderate, mainly from the west-southwest, strengthening during thunderstorms.

Eastern and Western Bulgaria

Western Bulgaria

In Western Bulgaria (Blagoevgrad, Pernik, Kyustendil, Vidin, Vratsa, Montana) the day will be typically summer-like – sunny until noon, but with clear instability in the afternoon.

Maximum temperatures will reach 28–31°C, and night temperatures – around 16–19°C. Along the Danube, it will again be warmer and stuffier.

The probability of precipitation and thunderstorms in Western Bulgaria is around 50–70%, higher in mountain and basin areas. In separate places, short but strong wind gusts, intense precipitation, and thunder are possible.

Eastern Bulgaria

In Eastern Bulgaria, outside the coast (Shumen, Sliven, Yambol, Targovishte, Razgrad, Dobrich), the weather will be mostly sunny before noon with a gradual increase in cloudiness in the afternoon.

Maximum temperatures will be between 29 and 32°C, and minimums – around 18–20°C. In some valley areas, it will be stuffier due to light wind and higher humidity.

The probability of precipitation in the eastern interior regions is around 30–40%, with a more significant risk of short-lived thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening hours.

The wind will be light to moderate, mainly from the east-northeast, with more noticeable gusts in open fields and highlands.

Weather in the mountains

On July 9, an unstable atmosphere will prevail in mountainous areas. The morning will be relatively sunny, but in the afternoon, powerful cumulus-rain clouds will develop with frequent precipitation and thunder.

In the lower mountain parts, maximum temperatures will be around 19–22°C, at 1200–1500 m – 14–17°C, and along the high ridges of Rila, Pirin, and the Balkan Mountains – around 9–13°C.

The probability of precipitation and storms in the mountains is high – between 70 and 80%, especially in the afternoon hours. Strong wind gusts, fog, and a sharp deterioration in visibility are possible.

The wind in the high parts will be moderate, temporarily strong, mainly from the west-southwest. Hikers should plan their trips in the earlier hours of the day and avoid ridge routes during thunderstorms.

Black Sea coast

Along the Black Sea coast, including the Northern and Southern Black Sea, July 9 will pass with typical summer weather – lots of sun before noon, more clouds in the afternoon, and a chance of short-lived showers.

Maximum temperatures along the coast will be in the range of 27–30°C, and minimums – around 19–21°C. In the areas of Burgas, Sunny Beach, Sozopol, and Primorsko, it will be slightly warmer and more humid.

The sea water temperature along the entire coast will be around 23–25°C, and in bays and shallow areas, especially around Burgas, it may feel a bit warmer.

A light to moderate wind will blow from the east-southeast with speeds of 3–7 m/s, with a slight increase in the afternoon due to the breeze effect. The sea will be slight to moderate.

Preliminary flag assessment for the Black Sea coast on July 9:

  • morning – predominantly green flag: good conditions for swimming and water fun;
  • afternoon – in some places yellow flag due to increased swell, more noticeable currents, and risk of local storms;
  • during thunderstorms – temporarily red flag and recommendation to get out of the water and leave the beach until the weather calms down.

Beachgoers are urged to follow the lifeguards' signals and current warnings for thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon hours.
