The end of Lada in Germany: 53 years of history go into the archives
The German market is finally saying goodbye to the Russian car brand Lada. The company "Lada Automobile GmbH", based in Buxtehude, has been officially closed, putting an end to over half a century of presence in the country.
The insolvency proceedings were opened on January 29, and after unsuccessful attempts to find an investor, the company ceased operations in March.
The rise and fall of a legend
The history of Lada in Germany began 53 years ago, with the peak of its popularity in the 70s and early 90s. In 1991, a record 50,000 new cars were registered, thanks to reliable models like the Lada 1200 and 1500, based on the Fiat 124.
- The Niva legend: A true favorite among hunters and forest rangers due to its off-road capability.
- Environmental regulations: In 2019, the brand began to withdraw due to strict EU standards.
- Geopolitical reasons: The invasion of Ukraine in 2022 permanently severed logistics chains and supplies.
