The National Road Agency is taking extraordinary measures to limit heavy truck traffic from now until June 27, 2025, due to forecast temperatures over 35 degrees. The restrictions cover 14 administrative areas in different regions of the country.
The specific restrictions involve suspending the movement of trucks over 20 tons in certain time intervals between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Vehicles will be directed to designated areas off the roadway, ensuring smooth passage for other traffic participants.
Exceptions to the introduced bans are provided for specialized vehicles transporting perishable products, goods with temperature requirements, live animals, and hazardous materials. The restrictions are differentiated across various road sections and areas.
In Northern Bulgaria, the restrictions cover roads such as I-2 Ruse-Varna, I-3 in the Strahilovo-Yablanitsa section, I-4 from Koritna to Shumen, and I-5 Ruse-Gabrovo. The affected areas include Ruse, Silistra, Razgrad, Targovishte, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, Lovech, and Gabrovo.
In the central parts of the country, the restrictions include the Sub-Balkan Road I-6 between Sofia and Burgas, specifically in the sections of Stara Zagora and Sliven. The bans apply to the section from Kalofer to the "Petolachkata" road junction and the route between Gabrovo and Kazanlak.
The main goal of the introduced measures is prevention of possible deformations in the road surface under extreme temperature conditions. The Road Infrastructure Agency appeals to drivers to exercise exceptional caution, follow the introduced restrictions, and avoid risky maneuvers.
Additional recommendations include avoiding the use of emergency lanes on highways, adjusting speed to road conditions, and ensuring safe movement. The aim is to minimize risks for travelers and maintain road infrastructure in good condition.
The introduced temporary bans are the result of a precise analysis of meteorological forecasts and potential road safety risks. They represent a preventive measure aimed at protecting traffic participants and preserving road infrastructure.
