A historic heatwave paralyzes France

Authorities in Paris have taken unprecedented measures due to the dangerous heatwave sweeping across the country. Some of the most iconic landmarks in the world – the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre – have drastically changed their visiting schedules.

The French meteorological service "Météo-France" has issued its highest red alert for danger in 58 departments.

Restrictions for tourists

  • Eiffel Tower: Access was suspended at noon, and the site closed its doors at 4:00 PM local time.
  • Louvre: The museum will close two hours earlier (at 4:00 PM) until Sunday, as the historic building is not equipped for climate change.
  • Mont Saint-Michel: Authorities are advising tourists to postpone their visits due to the extremely difficult conditions in the narrow alleys of the island.

Temperatures in Paris reached 36 degrees today, with peak values of 39 degrees expected tomorrow. Red Cross and Civil Defense teams have been deployed to key locations to provide assistance to visitors experiencing health issues.
