Request in Parliament: Fuels, Lukoil, and a Plan to Address the Situation

We are submitting a written request to Parliament, which calls on the Prime Minister and the Minister of Energy to appear in the National Assembly. The aim is to provide explanations for the current situation with fuels and to present a plan to deal with the problems that have arisen. This became clear from a statement by Atanas Atanasov from the parliamentary group of "We Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria" (WCC-DB), which he made to journalists in the corridors of Parliament. According to him, the situation with fuels, directly related to "Lukoil" and the sale deal, is getting worse every day.

The air in the parliament was heavy with tension. Journalists were moving from group to group in an attempt to gather as much information as possible about what was happening. Atanasov stressed the growing public tension, noting that citizens are concerned about the availability of fuels and their prices.

Ivaylo Mirchev from WCC-DB added that the US Treasury Department has announced that the company "Gunvor" is a Russian puppet, which means that no exception will be made from the imposed sanctions. According to him, this has potentially serious consequences. As of November 21, the refinery in Burgas may be deprived of the ability to carry out financial transactions. This represents a significant risk both for the fuel market in the country and for the Bulgarian refinery itself.

According to Mirchev, there is a lack of specific information regarding the availability of 90-day fuel reserves. He also emphasized the absence of data on specific measures taken by the government. The MP stressed that it is a public secret that some companies do not fulfill their obligation to import the necessary quantities of fuel into the state reserve warehouses. He stressed that this practice has been going on for years.

The co-chairman of the PG of WCC-DB, Nikolay Denkov, expressed categorical disapproval that for weeks the National Assembly has not received information about the development of the situation. He pointed out that he had sent a signal to Rosen Zhelyazkov, offering help with the information the group has.

Asked about the need to appoint a special manager and expand his powers, Denkov replied that they should be prepared for all possible scenarios. He explained that if the refinery is not transferred to a new owner by November 21, it must function independently of its Russian owners and financial flows. Otherwise, the situation could turn out to be extremely unfavorable for the state.
