The Inspectorate of the Supreme Judicial Council is checking whether prosecutors broke the law when they gave details of an unfinished investigation into the "Petrohan – Okolchitsa" case at a press briefing. That is what the body told the programme "Po sveta i u nas".

The complaint, filed by the interior ministry and the prosecutor's office, reached the Inspectorate on 15 September — a day after the briefing itself, held at the Sofia courthouse on 14 September 2026. Who filed it is not yet clear, as the Inspectorate is not naming the person who sent it.

The complaint asks whether prosecutors had the right to make case materials public, and whether anyone had actually approved what exactly could be told to the media.

A file has already been opened and a preliminary check is under way. The aim is to find out whether the prosecutor supervising the case agreed to let the media be told anything about the investigation — and if so, what exactly and how much. The Inspectorate has also written to the person who filed the complaint, asking them to fix some gaps in it.

The body adds that if it turns out personal data was disclosed, a further check will follow.
