Iliana Iotova: Bulgaria Awaiting EC Deficit Report

Vice President Iliana Iotova stated to journalists that many EU countries are in a similar economic situation to Bulgaria's. The comment was made regarding the European Commission's report expected on June 3, which will likely initiate an excessive deficit procedure for our country.

When we see the arguments of the European Commission and when we see exactly what it wants to impose, then I will comment on it, stated Iliana Iotova.

We remind you that caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev (quoted in the context of the government meeting) confirmed that the country's budget deficit is significantly above the permissible 3%. This state of affairs will inevitably lead to:

• Regular monitoring by Brussels
• Implementation of restrictive financial measures
• Possible sanctions for non-compliance with the criteria
