Georgiev and Vadeful Discussed the Ceasefire in the Middle East and the Black Sea

The region remains delicate, despite the announced truce in the Middle East. This was stated by Foreign Minister Georgi Georgiev after a meeting with his German counterpart, Johann Wadephul, who is on a visit to Bulgaria.

A tense situation is emerging. The Black Sea is in close proximity to a zone of military conflict. Minister Georgiev stressed that Bulgaria insists on an increased presence in the Black Sea on the agenda of both NATO and the European Union.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister pointed out that our country is strongly interested in maintaining stability in the region. He emphasized the need to ensure the security of shipping and other key issues. As an example, Georgiev pointed out the transport corridors, including those for military mobility, giving special attention to the importance of transport corridor 8.

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul began a two-day visit to Bulgaria and Romania today. DPA news agency, citing information from the Foreign Ministry in Berlin, reports that the talks will focus on providing support for Ukraine and strengthening European capabilities in the field of security and defense.

During the joint press conference after the meeting, Minister Georgiev noted: "I must start with the good news of the day, namely the truce reached between Israel and Hamas - a truce we have hoped for for a long time, a truce for which we must give due credit to President Trump and his administration and a truce which is very valuable and important, both for us as states and peoples".

The Minister recalled that "With the release of the hostages from the terrorists of Hamas, a Bulgarian citizen was released, Germans were released, innocent people were released".

"From now on, the healing process begins, we hope for the reconstruction of Gaza, the cessation of suffering and the humanitarian catastrophe and the giving of a new direction for the region of the Middle East. In this process, Bulgaria and Germany were also friends and partners, and stood on very close positions on how to approach the establishment of peace in this region", concluded the Bulgarian Foreign Minister.
