French media reported last night that the novel "The Gardener and Death" by Georgi Gospodinov has been awarded the prestigious European literary prize "Jean Monnet" for 2026. The Bulgarian work competed against a number of influential contemporary titles for the prize, and the French translation was entrusted to Marie Vrinat.
The writer himself shared the news of his latest international recognition through a post on his personal Facebook profile. This success is further proof of Gospodinov's established position on the European cultural scene.
The formal award ceremony is scheduled for November 21. The event is included in the official program of the 39th European Cultural Festival, which will take place in the Cognac region of France.
