Writer Galina Zlatareva presents her new historical novel, "Boris and His Sons," as announced by the teams at ArhipelaG Publishing and Ciela Publishing. The work is a monumental epic, unfolded across two volumes, focusing on the pivotal and dramatic events that marked the Christianization under the ruler Boris, as well as the subsequent "Golden Age" of his son Simeon.
This title serves as the author's third historical novel following the success of her previous books, "The Medallion" and "The Soothsayer." Appearing on the eve of two significant commemorative anniversaries—1120 years since the death of Boris and 1100 years since the death of Simeon—the novel offers a multi-layered picture of Bulgarian history from centuries ago. The plot is built upon a substantial amount of historical sources, describing complex political intrigues and the difficult decisions faced by the ruling family.
Galina Zlatareva masterfully recreates the titanic drive of Boris to establish a new, Christian, and enlightened Bulgaria while preserving its independence. This large-scale endeavor is threatened by an unexpected collapse, triggered by the dissolute life and crimes of his firstborn son, Rasate. For this reason, Boris is forced to take the extreme step of dethroning the heir to the throne and, out of necessity, removing Simeon from the monastery, handing power over to him amidst the ruins of a personal family tragedy. According to the publishers, the figures of Boris, Vladimir-Rasate, and Simeon come to life in the book beyond legends and idealized perceptions.
An official presentation of the book is scheduled to take place during the Apollonia Festival of Arts in Sozopol.
- Date and time: September 5 at 6:00 PM.
