Deputy prime minister and finance minister Galab Donev will attend meetings of the Eurogroup and ECOFIN in Luxembourg on 8 and 9 October, the finance ministry said.

Ireland, which holds the EU Council presidency, wants ministers to agree on a common approach to the market integration and supervision package. The ministry says the package is a key step towards the EU's Savings and Investments Union.

ECOFIN is the EU Council of economic and financial affairs ministers. At the meeting, ministers will discuss a report on how competitive the EU banking sector is. They will also get an update on the economic and financial effects of Russia's war on Ukraine, and discuss them.

Ministers will be briefed on how the Recovery and Resilience Facility is going. They will also look at the lessons of the 2026 European Semester and at the Czech Republic's national medium-term fiscal-structural plan for 2027-2030, with a view to approving it.

ECOFIN is due to adopt conclusions on funding the fight against climate change, ahead of the UN climate conference in Antalya, Turkey, from 9 to 20 November 2026.

The Eurogroup will discuss trends in currency exchange rates and the annual review of progress on the Capital Markets Union. Ministers will also talk about "the effectiveness and efficiency of public finances" and the impact of energy markets on the eurozone economy.

Last month Donev took part in the informal ECOFIN meeting in Dublin, which focused on the future of financial innovation in Europe, BTA reported.
