In an official meeting held on June 27, 2025, in the Spanish city of Alicante, the leaders of two leading institutions in the field of intellectual property outlined joint strategic priorities for the next decade.
The Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Joao Negrao, and the Chairman of the Bulgarian Patent Office, Eng. Olya Dimitrova, thoroughly analyzed the prospects for digital transformation and the implementation of artificial intelligence in industrial protection systems.
The focus of the discussions was directed towards key areas, including modernization of existing mechanisms for intellectual property protection. Special attention was paid to new European initiatives related to geographical indications for craft and industrial products.
Statistical data presented during the meeting show an extremely positive dynamic – nearly a 60% increase in European trademark applications from Bulgarian entrepreneurs, starting from 2020. This growth eloquently demonstrates the evolution of strategic thinking in local business.
Negrao emphasized the significant role of the Bulgarian institution in the European Cooperation Network, noting active participation and professionalism. For her part, Eng. Dimitrova expressed confidence in the future development of partnership between the two organizations.
The meeting reinforced the understanding that successful cooperation is a key factor in promoting innovation, increasing competitiveness, and modernizing the industrial property protection system in a European context.
