Experts Warn of Formalities and Lawlessness in Driver's License Exams

The topic of the "road war" was once again in the public spotlight, this time with the debate shifting from road accidents to the very roots of the problem: the training and exams of future drivers. On the show "The Day Begins," lawyer Emanuil Yordanov, a former Minister of Internal Affairs, and Krasimir Georgiev, chairman of AKAB, presented their critical analyses on the topic. The discussion revealed deep structural flaws and raised questions about the integrity of the process that issues driver's licenses for motor vehicles.

Krasimir Georgiev expressed his strong disagreement with the conclusions of the Automobile Administration regarding Viktor Iliev's exam. According to him, the state institution found not a single flaw in the exam, which is inexplicable in the face of obvious violations.

Georgiev emphasized that Iliev's exam began with a violation from the very start. He highlighted the fact that by law and logic, the exam should start in front of the training center, but instead it was conducted by DAI.

The chairman of AKAB added to his criticism by questioning the very environment in which the exam took place. According to him, the location did not correspond to the conditions and intensity of traffic that would be expected in a regional city like Montana. This detail is particularly alarming, as the exam was held in Sofia, where traffic and road conditions are significantly more complex. Georgiev rhetorically asked whether the exam recording shows a tram stop or tram tracks—elements characteristic of urban traffic that were obviously missing. In conclusion, he described Viktor Iliev's exam as a "pro forma," implying that it was merely an appearance, devoid of real control and assessment.

Within the same discussion, Emanuil Yordanov touched on another aspect of the problem: the culture of road behavior. The former Interior Minister expressed his bewilderment as to why there are still people in society who perceive breaking the rules as a kind of "heroism." He criticized the reactive approach of the state, which always "follows events, as always." According to him, changes in laws and an increase in sanctions yield no results because these measures are a consequence, not a cause, of the problem. Yordanov emphasized that the lack of effective law enforcement and preventative measures renders even the strictest regulations meaningless.

Emanuil Yordanov also issued a particularly sharp warning regarding Viktor Iliev himself. He stated that Iliev obviously does not value his own life, as he is ready to commit suicide in the name of what he considers "heroism." The expert qualified such behavior as a crime, thereby unequivocally distancing himself from any form of tolerance for reckless and dangerous driving. The words of Yordanov and Georgiev cast a heavy shadow over the road control system and raise serious questions about the safety of all road users.
