Burgas councillor Stoyko Andreev has proposed one standard for street signs in the city. Each sign would show the street name in Cyrillic and Latin letters, with a QR code next to it that gives the street's history.

The standard would set the design, size, materials, legibility, accessibility, fitting and upkeep of the signs. Andreev says the rules should be the same for all signs but suit the place where each one goes up.

The code on each sign would lead to an official municipality web page with historical information in Bulgarian and English. The texts on the page could be updated without changing the code.

Once the standard is adopted, the municipal council would have to commission an analysis of how many signs are needed. It would give a rough cost for developing the standard, design, production, fitting, digital integration, historical content and upkeep. It would also name priority areas to start with and set out the stages of the work.

Based on these estimates, the money for the first stage should go into the Burgas municipality budget for 2027.
