Historic Triumph: CSKA Lifts Its 22nd Cup

CSKA recorded another memorable moment in its history by defeating Lokomotiv Plovdiv with an aggregate score of 5-4 after a penalty shootout. The regular time ended with a score of 1-1, and the dramatic extra time failed to produce a winner, despite VAR intervention.

"This is a success forged with a lot of will and character. CSKA proved why it is one of the most successful clubs in Bulgaria," sports analysts commented.

Key moments of the final

  • Early goal: Leandro Godoy opened the scoring with a header early in the match.
  • The "Smurfs" response: Lukas Ryan equalized in the 47th minute after a cross from Umarbaev.
  • VAR drama: A goal by Godoy in the 95th minute was disallowed after a six-minute review due to a handball.
  • Goalkeeper heroism: Fyodor Lapoukhov was a key figure, saving decisive shots and penalties.

The outcome from the penalty spot

During the penalty shootout, the players' nerves were tested to the limit. After misses by the captains early on, James Eto'o's precision put an end to the contest. With this success, CSKA not only adds a 22nd trophy to its club cabinet but also secures its participation in the Europa League qualifiers.
