Mini Maritsa-Iztok mined 10,135,713 tonnes of lignite in the first nine months of 2026, 106% of its business plan, the company said. It expects output to reach 16m tonnes by the end of the year, about 124% of the plan.
The company plans to mine more than 6m tonnes in the last three months, about 173% of the plan for that period.
The coal comes from three mines. The company said it is filling customer orders at the agreed quality, and larger volumes have gone to customers in recent weeks. For unexpected and emergency cases, it has extra coal supply links to make deliveries more secure.
The company said the overburden sections in all three mines are running well. The working and non-working benches, meaning the slopes of the pits, and the tiers of the spoil heaps are stable. Preparation for autumn and winter is in its final phase. The company is also part of a working group that energy minister Iva Petrova set up by order.
The finished papers to set up Holding Maritsa Iztok have been sent to the Commercial Register for entry. Work is also under way on the projects under the long-term Business Programme 2026-2036. These include notifications to the European Commission about funding for the tasks and for the future work of the new body.
At the end of September, the Council of Ministers changed the 2026 budget of the Energy Ministry by decree. With extra payments from the central budget, the government secured €126.6m for the first cash payment to raise the holding's capital.
