MPs: Most Unjustified Absences in the National Assembly

The leading MP in the National Assembly, the chairman of "DPS-New Beginning", has registered the most unjustified absences. The data, published on the official website of the Parliament, shows a worrying trend of increased absence from plenary sessions in October.

It is clear from the reference that the MP with the most absences is indeed Delyan Peevski, who registered five unjustified absences. A total of 191 out of 240 MPs were registered as absent from sessions in October. This represents a significant increase compared to September, when the number of MPs with unjustified absences was 105.

Most absent MPs are from the parliamentary group of GERB-SDS. All 66 MPs from this group were absent. One of them has three, and the others have two unjustified absences.

In the ranking of MPs with the most absences, after the chairman of "DPS-New Beginning" Delyan Peevski, follows Branimir Balachev from GERB-SDS, as well as Dimitar Avramov from "DPS-New Beginning", both with three unjustified absences. 121 MPs have recorded two unjustified absences, and 67 - one.

From "Vazrazhdane" 30 MPs had unjustified absences, from "DPS-New Beginning" - 29, from "There is such a people" - 17, from "BSP-United Left" - 16, "Morality, Unity and Honor" - 11, from "Velichie" - 10, from PP-DB nine, and from "Alliance for Rights and Freedoms" - two. The independent MP Mario Rangelov has one unjustified absence.

How do these absences affect the remuneration of the MPs? The regulation defines clear rules for payment.

According to the regulations, MPs receive a basic monthly remuneration, which is equal to three average monthly salaries in the public sector, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). This remuneration is updated every quarter, taking into account the average monthly salary from the last month of the previous quarter.

For each unjustified absence from a plenary session, a deduction is made from the daily remuneration of the MP. If an MP is unjustifiably absent from three consecutive or a total of five plenary sessions for the relevant month, the deduction is equal to two-thirds of their monthly remuneration. In addition, when a session cannot take place or is terminated due to lack of a quorum, MPs who are absent for unwarranted reasons are also subject to a deduction equal to two-thirds of their daily remuneration.
