The Chairpersons of the CPC and the CPC, Assoc. Prof. Rosen Karadimov and Maria Filipova, together with the management of the two commissions, held a working meeting to outline the specific steps to ensure effective competition and consumer protection in the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.
Assoc. Prof. Karadimov stressed that the use of the euro as a justification for speculative price increases will not be allowed. All legal mechanisms will be used to ensure market fairness and real protection of consumers and producers. Upcoming working meetings with other responsible institutions, trade unions, employers and consumer organizations.
Maria Filipova explained that together with the experts of the CPC, a tour will be carried out in every settlement to hold direct consultations with the people. She assured that the CPC will be uncompromising towards traders who violate the rules. Checks on retail chains setting prices in different currencies have already begun.
The planned measures include the coordinated exercise of the powers of the CPC and the CPC, the establishment of a mechanism for the rapid exchange of market data and the strengthening of sudden on-site inspections. Real-time monitoring will be carried out in sensitive sectors such as food, fuel, pharmaceuticals, finance, e-commerce and telecommunications.

Joint expert groups will be set up to develop proposals for legislative changes to increase the effectiveness of the supervisory authorities. Assoc. Prof. Karadimov stated that the state will do everything possible to achieve full synchronization between the institutions and not allow unjustified price increases.
