The eclipse over Bulgaria: What did we see?

Recently, residents of Northwestern Bulgaria had the rare opportunity to observe a partial solar eclipse. In Vidin, the phenomenon was visible in the short interval between 8:27 p.m. and 8:37 p.m., requiring an open horizon due to the low position of the Sun.

This was defined by astronomers as the most interesting phenomenon of the year, during which the Sun was located just 1 degree above the western horizon.

How is a solar eclipse formed?

This phenomenon occurs when the Moon positions itself directly between the Earth and the Sun. Its shadow falls on the Earth's surface, creating the illusion that the solar disk has been "bitten off".

• Safety: Never look directly at the Sun without special filters!
• Global scale: The full phase was visible mainly in the Arctic, Russia, and parts of Spain.

What awaits us in the future?

While the next total solar eclipse visible from our latitudes is not expected until 2081, star enthusiasts have a reason to rejoice. As early as August 28 of this year, it will be possible to observe the beginning of a partial lunar eclipse from the territory of Bulgaria.
