The national agency responsible for sports and youth has registered an impressive budget progress during the first six months of the current year. Financing in the sector has increased by 31 percent, which amounts to slightly over 42 million levs in additional funds compared to the previous period.
During a national conference in Stara Zagora, Deputy Minister Dimitar Georgiev presented the details of this significant economic leap. According to the official statement, the increased financial resources are directed towards strategic priorities in the field of sports and youth policy.
The distribution of funds covers multiple areas. Federations, sports organizations, and clubs receive targeted financing. Particular attention has been paid to improving sports infrastructure and creating new facilities. It is also noteworthy that funds for people with disabilities have been increased by an impressive 26 percent.
The ministry is taking large-scale steps for the future development of the sports sector. A working group has been formed to develop a National Strategy for Physical Activity and Sports Tourism with a 12-year horizon.
Operationally, contracts have been signed with 47 federations out of a total of 54 possible sports areas. Financing has been secured for the preparation of 1,395 athletes who will compete in the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 2028, as well as their reserve for the 2032 edition.
Among other significant initiatives is the creation of an inter-agency group that will explore opportunities for building a new national stadium. In parallel, experts are developing a concept for managing properties owned by the Ministry.
In the field of youth policy, the focus is on encouraging the activity and participation of young people in public life. The National Youth Program receives an additional 500,000 levs, which further emphasizes the strategic commitment to this target group.
