Teachers from the city of Burgas demonstrated high sportsmanship and achieved a commendable performance during the XXII International Teachers' Spartakiad. The prestigious sports event took place from August 26 to August 31, 2026, at the Albena resort complex, bringing together 32 teams with a total of over 590 competitors from Bulgaria and abroad, including representatives from Poland and Azerbaijan. The program of the Spartakiad featured a rich variety of 12 sports and a total of 23 disciplines.
The Burgas delegation consisted of 21 teachers who competed in 9 sports and 15 disciplines. The team's impressive results include a total of 8 awards: 2 first places, 3 second places, 2 fourth places, and 1 fifth place. Championship titles were won by the Burgas representatives in women's swimming and men's beach volleyball, while silver medals were earned in women's streetball, men's swimming, and the swimming relay. The team's tally also included two fourth-place finishes in women's table tennis and men's pétanque, as well as a fifth-place position in mixed-team pétanque.
With a total of 38 points, SBU (Trade Union of Bulgarian Teachers) – Burgas took a prestigious fourth place in the overall final ranking of the forum. The Burgas educators finished just behind the teams from Varna (77 points), Plovdiv (68 points), and Poland (59 points). This achievement is particularly significant, as the other three teams at the top participated in all disciplines with squads ranging between 40 and 60 competitors. Following Burgas in the standings were 28 other teams, including representatives from Azerbaijan, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Shumen, and others.
Swimmers Ivaylo Dzhambazov and Teodora Yaneva also received individual recognition for their athletic skills, placing third. The traditional participation of teachers from Burgas in this international sports forum is made possible with the financial support of the Municipality of Burgas. This latest strong performance reinforces the belief that Burgas teachers not only inspire their students in the classroom but also successfully uphold the city's reputation through their teamwork, sportsmanship, and drive for victory.
