The British automotive market in 2025: SUVs lead, electric cars gain momentum

The current data for the British automotive market in 2025 shows that SUV models continue to dominate among the most sought-after vehicles on the Island. The leader in the ranking of best-selling cars is the Ford Puma, followed by the Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai, Vauxhall Corsa, and Volkswagen Golf.

However, the share of electric vehicles (EV) in total sales is showing a significant increase, reaching 21.8% by May 2025. This happens with an existing quota (ZEV) of 28%, and the penalties for non-compliance were reduced from £15,000 to £12,000 in order to stimulate the market for electric vehicles.

Experts note that SUVs and the introduction of new, more affordable electric models are the main drivers of the British automotive market at the moment. The trend of increasing the share of environmentally friendly vehicles is expected to continue in the coming years.
