Borisov: I won't allow price increases because of the euro

This year's budget is a coalition one, and therefore the leader of GERB, Boyko Borisov, stated to journalists in the corridors of parliament that he will not allow the increase or decrease of people's incomes to be linked to the introduction of the euro. He emphasized that he has assessed this risk and will not allow it, as these words were addressed in connection with the draft budget for 2026 and the dissatisfaction expressed by the employers' organizations. Borisov announced that a meeting with the employers will be held, at which the details will be discussed.

The atmosphere in the corridors of parliament was tense. Journalists were crowding around the leader of GERB, asking questions about the complex economic situation. The employers' dissatisfaction had obviously caused serious concern.

Yesterday's meeting of the National Council for Trilateral Cooperation (NCTC) ended in failure, after the employers' organizations refused to take part in it. This further underscored the tension surrounding the budget process and the proposed measures.

Borisov emphasized the fact that the state has provided support to businesses, "subsidizing with a billion and one hundred million since June" for ensuring cheaper electricity. He stressed that this measure is aimed at supporting the generation of profits.

The leader of GERB also commented that within the framework of the current budget there is an increase in incomes in key sectors. "In the current budget, mothers receive more, medical workers and doctors receive more, teachers, the military, police officers, and services receive more, huge sectors receive more money on their pay slips, to understand that the euro is not the reason for the price increases," he said. This underlines the complex economic situation and the need for balanced solutions, according to him.
